Thank you for your interest in Orthodontics by the Fergus-Burris Team. We look forward to meeting you. In the meantime we want to give you some information regarding your first visit with us to give you a good sense of what will happen at this appointment so you can feel totally comfortable. Below you will find a description of the first visit (initial exam) as well as possible subsequent visits.

There is no charge for the initial exam and consultation!
Normally takes about one hour.
Depending on the circumstances, we may ask your permission to take a panoramic x-ray (an x-ray that shows all of the teeth on one large film) in order to evaluate the development and general health of the teeth — particularly any teeth which have not yet grown in.
The doctor will do a comprehensive clinical exam, discuss your treatment options with you in detail, and answer any questions you may have.
If the clinical exam reveals you are ready for orthodontic treatment, complete diagnostic records will be made including additional X-rays and photos of the patient's face and teeth. These records are helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
If the clinical exam reveals you are not ready for treatment, we will set up an Observation Appointment to monitor any changes due to growth.

Once treatment is agreed upon, the New Patient Coordinator will discuss appointments, financial arrangements, answer any insurance questions and schedule your appointment to begin treatment. Depending on your schedule and ours, we may be able to start treatment that same day!

The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes about one hour. You'll then see us at regular intervals 4 to 10 weeks apart for adjustments, which takes about 20 minutes. To insure our patients prompt service, all appointments are scheduled in advance. Since it is difficult to reschedule appointments made 4 to 10 weeks in advance, we ask that you make every effort to keep all scheduled appointments.

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options at the first visit. It is our mission to provide you with affordable, high-quality treatment that fits your budget! We offer a variety of payment options to meet your needs. Please ask us about financing options, credit card payments and bank drafts. We thoroughly explain your options, so that we can accommodate your needs. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans and will file the necessary papers to your insurance company for you. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable.

In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:

If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a fee discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
To fit your individual needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months.
For your convenience, we accept payment by VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER CARD and AMERICAN EXPRESS.
We also offer CareCredit and Capitol One extended payment plans.
With regard to Flex Spending and Cafeteria Plans, we are happy to arrange yearly payments.
In cases of serious delinquency, treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties.

In many cases, patients will have some type of orthodontic insurance which will usually cover a part of the treatment fee. If you have insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available (see above). We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf.
